Summary

Turn a Blind Eye is the third installment in the gripping story of Detective Inspector William Warwick, by the master storyteller and #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Clifton Chronicles。

Newly promoted to Detective Inspector, William Warwick is tasked with a dangerous new line of work, to go undercover and expose crime of another kind: corruption at the heart of the Metropolitan Police Force。 Along with detectives Rebecca Pankhurst and Nicky Bailey, his team is focused on following Detective Jerry Summers, a young officer whose lifestyle exceeds his income。 But the investigation risks being compromised when Nicky falls for Summers。
Meanwhile, notorious drug baron Ahmed Rashidi goes on trial, defended by Booth Watson QC, while William’s father Sir Julian and sister Grace lead the prosecution case。 And William’s wife Beth, now a new mother to twins, makes a surprising new friend in Christina Faulkner—the ex-wife of William’s former rival, criminal financier Miles - who has not only turned over a new leaf, but also has a new-found source of income when Faulkner dies suddenly of a heart attack and she stands to be sole inheritor of his estate。
As the undercover officers start to draw the threads together, William realizes that the corruption may go deeper still, and more of his colleagues than he first thought might be willing to turn a blind eye。

Tried and true! Formulaic even。 It is not a struggle to read, in fact, you can almost read it in your sleep, but sometimes that is what you need and this was one of those times。 Good to be able to count on something to do what you expect it。

It is an excellent read。 I loved it throughout with certain unexpected events happening which was not the case in the first 2 books of the series。 Waiting for the next book to be Rameses。

I enjoy this series。 There aren’t a lot of surprises。 The writing is good。 It’s fun to watch the Warwick’s progress。 William has been promoted to Detective Inspector and he is a part of his family’s legal processes。 He and his sister Grace compliment his father’s high standards as The prosecutors for the Crown。 He is the father of twins。 He has high standards and has earned a reputation as a straight man, dubbed “ the choir boy,” he struggles with turning a blind eye to his commander。 As such he I enjoy this series。 There aren’t a lot of surprises。 The writing is good。 It’s fun to watch the Warwick’s progress。 William has been promoted to Detective Inspector and he is a part of his family’s legal processes。 He and his sister Grace compliment his father’s high standards as The prosecutors for the Crown。 He is the father of twins。 He has high standards and has earned a reputation as a straight man, dubbed “ the choir boy,” he struggles with turning a blind eye to his commander。 As such he finds himself going under cover to investigate graft in the police force。I will read others for the fun of it。 。。。more

What a beautiful way to spend a bank holiday weekend, curled up with a Jeffrey Archer novel。 For me it is the definition of warm and cosy。 Turn a Blind Eye is the third in the William Warwick series, and sees William Warwick promoted to detective inspector and put in charge of a team investigating police corruption。 In the background is the ongoing story of his nemesis Miles Faulkner, who William locked swords with in the first volume。 What I love about these novels is that they aren't dark and What a beautiful way to spend a bank holiday weekend, curled up with a Jeffrey Archer novel。 For me it is the definition of warm and cosy。 Turn a Blind Eye is the third in the William Warwick series, and sees William Warwick promoted to detective inspector and put in charge of a team investigating police corruption。 In the background is the ongoing story of his nemesis Miles Faulkner, who William locked swords with in the first volume。 What I love about these novels is that they aren't dark and gritty, the bad guy always gets his comeuppance and the cast of characters is identifiable。 I also like the fencing between Miles and William, each one-upping the other。 The series is set in the 80s and is based on the novels the character Harry Clifton wrote in The Clifton Chronicles; Archer decided to bring them to life。 I'm looking forward to the next one when it's released later this year。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 The Warwick series continues to be entirely readable but, again, the overall quality undershoots the historic Archer benchmark。 Characters remain flimsy - especially William Warwick himself - the plot is pretty daft, the court room scenes don't feel real, time seems to pass both too slowly and too quickly - and everything seems to be under the stewardship of an all seeing narrator, as opposed to clear point of view writing。 I struggle to see why Warwick is feted as such a whizz kid by his superi The Warwick series continues to be entirely readable but, again, the overall quality undershoots the historic Archer benchmark。 Characters remain flimsy - especially William Warwick himself - the plot is pretty daft, the court room scenes don't feel real, time seems to pass both too slowly and too quickly - and everything seems to be under the stewardship of an all seeing narrator, as opposed to clear point of view writing。 I struggle to see why Warwick is feted as such a whizz kid by his superiors and thus how he keeps his blistering fast track string of promotions going (all under the same boss!)。 And the trademark Archer last page twist seems to have vanished into the lightest of punchlines。BUT - it delivered some light entertainment and I will probably come back for more。 Diminishing returns, though。 Archer could doing with darkening the tone and upping the stakes in the the next instalment(s)。 。。。more

Archer has been one of my fav authors for years, but the painful plodding of this tome I thought would be the death of me。 Hours wasted to finish。

Another fantastic book in the William Warwick series。 I love the characters, the dialogue, and the story。 The stand alone mystery here was intriguing, and the Miles/Christina/Beth ongoing story was also awesome。 One of my favorite parts of this series is that it started in the 80s when William was young and is continuing through the decades。 It is fun to think about the way things used to be and how we all used to communicate and do business。

The third in the series and for me this was somewhat pedestrian insofar the plot was predictable。As with many of JA's books this felt like a script for a tv tele movie。 The third in the series and for me this was somewhat pedestrian insofar the plot was predictable。As with many of JA's books this felt like a script for a tv tele movie。 。。。more

Another good beach / airplane book in Archer’s Warwick series。 The books are well written, with interesting characters and a good continuing story。 It’s not great literature but a good read。 I would recommend it。

Turn a Blind Eye focused much more on courtroom machinations and much less on detective action。 For this reason I found it frustrating and slow paced。 The narration paced the reader through the novel but did often in a slow and patronizing way。 The pages turned, the brain did not have to put in much work。

Jeffrey Archer still writes a good story but I hate feeling like his books are a written soap opera。 There is little feeling of beginning and end to each volume, just a random separation by binding。 It would make sense to me if I waited for each collection to be completely written then read the volumes as a group。

Linda Davidson

Entertaining mystery in a good, British manner。 Being the 3rd in a series, ( but the first I read) I had some trouble trying to keep some of the characters straight。 The main character is good, and actually all the characters were good。

Jan Sockness

An entertaining, easy read that takes your mind off of real-world issues。

Archer is a great storyteller and his continuing stories about william warwick and his family are well written。 I look for surprises, but he still surprises me。 This was an interesting novel。

I couldn't put this book down。 Inspector William Warwick is a straight arrow who is facing some critical enemies。 Assem Rashidi is a major drug dealer with almost infinite resources and the willingness to use them。 Detective Nicky Bailey makes a few critical mistakes but proves pivotal as the novel progresses。 The Hawk and the Marlboro Man are interesting characters。 Booth Watson is the best defense lawyer ever。 It is a London based novel and I learned some slang and different terms。 It has to b I couldn't put this book down。 Inspector William Warwick is a straight arrow who is facing some critical enemies。 Assem Rashidi is a major drug dealer with almost infinite resources and the willingness to use them。 Detective Nicky Bailey makes a few critical mistakes but proves pivotal as the novel progresses。 The Hawk and the Marlboro Man are interesting characters。 Booth Watson is the best defense lawyer ever。 It is a London based novel and I learned some slang and different terms。 It has to be a part two based on the ending。 I will look for it。 。。。more

Great! Lots of enjoyable, even if somewhat predictable, twists and turns。 Very likable characters。

No getting around it - Jeffrey Archer knows his police/law background。 A good police procedural。

Michael

A good story but not one of his stand outs。 Usually I can’t put a Jeffrey Archer book down but this one was so-so compared to some of his。 The main character is holier than thou which a bit annoying too。
